When I first rented my unit, the price was $124/month. Within just a few months it went up to $185, and then almost immediately jumped again to $204. The constant rent increases every 5 months make it feel like they lure you in with a low rate and then raise it once your stuff is already there. The facility also claims to be climate controlled, but based on my experience, I’m not sure how true that is. Many of the fabric items we stored developed mold, which was frustrating and costly. The final straw came when we were moving out. We had finished emptying our unit and left it unlocked for about two hours while finishing up nearby. When we came back to put our lock on, there was a blue tag on the door. A few hours later, we got a rude call from the office saying the unit was being rented to someone else and that we shouldn’t have locked it again basically. Apparently, their policy says that if a unit appears “abandoned,” they can take it over — but calling something abandoned after just two hours feels extreme and unreasonable. Overall, between the frequent rent hikes, questionable climate control, and poor customer service, I wouldn’t recommend this facility. There are better, more consistent storage options out there. Update: Mold problem was a lot worse than we thought. Things that were in boxes had mold on them. I’m convinced that it’s not normal.

The process of renting a space was easy. The space was very clean, easily accessible, and much cheaper than another storage facility nearby. The staff was also helpful. I just vacated the space but would definitely rent a storage space from this place again if needed.

I came in with a reservation I just put in a couple minutes before showing up. Lucas was very nice and showed me the unit even though I didn’t have an appointment. He was very knowledgeable of the whole process and took his time to explain every part. I appreciate his kindness and patience. He made me very happy with my choice to rent with this location!

DO NOT RENT HERE. Billing Transparency Issues – Apparent Public Storage Push for Rate Increases. I’ve been a Public Storage customer for several years at multiple locations and have never experienced issues like this before. At the Parklawn location (under the same management and staffing as the Shady Grove–Redland/Frederick Road location), my unit rate increased significantly without a clear explanation or timely documentation. I repeatedly requested that this information be provided by email or voicemail for record-keeping and escalation purposes, yet the issue remained unresolved due to a lack of proper follow-up efforts from the property. Because this was not addressed when first raised, late fees accrued as well. My account was subsequently threatened with auction action. These fees and threats would not exist had the issue been handled appropriately when initially reported. After contacting Public Storage customer service, I was able to receive a credit for December’s rent increase and the associated late fee. However, I was also informed that my original rental rate would not be honored. I was told pricing is based on “demand.” For context, my rent increased after only 3–4 months. When I raised concerns about this increase, I was offered a temporary modified rate for three months, with the explanation that the system does not allow adjustments beyond that period *red flag*. I later came across another recent low-star review describing a rent increase on a similar 3–4 month timeline at these locations. Taken together, this raises serious questions about the claim that pricing is demand-based, as the increases appear to follow a predictable 3-4 month cycle rather than fluctuate with actual demand. And of course, pricing moves upward, with no corresponding decreases when demand declines. For anyone considering Public Storage: rent short-term only (1–2 months) and closely monitor your billing. Request documentation often. Or, better yet, avoid renting with companies that actively mislead, deceive, and cheat their customers. This matter is being formally documented and escalated.

We’ve been using the storage facilities for almost a year now, and the location is perfect, easy access to the facility and to our storage unit. The storage facilities are clean and climate controlled.
